While I have used a camera most of my adult life, my experience was limited to taking an occasional snap shot or documenting an event; it wasn’t until I retired in 2006 that I had time to redefine my craft and grow as an artist photographer.
I strive to make images that lend themselves to personal interpretation, and will often make a creative judgement as to whether the story is best told in color or monochrome. For some images, color is the logical choice; however, there are cases where color will work, but my bias is to black and white because I feel it brings out the depth and drama in the image that color may mask.
Photography is deeply personal and a self-fulfilling proposition for me; my goal is to make prints that both challenge and engage while guiding me along a mental journey to places filled with fond memories. Regardless of the path viewers take, if an image resonates and speaks to their soul, then that is a good thing – a fringe benefit of my effort.
The images on this website provide a glimpse into who I am and how I view the world. From image composition to final print, it is my hope you will gain insight into what I value and admire.
Thank you,
Art Serabian
